Atlas cedar

Cedrus atlantica

Description

Majestic conifer with bluish-gray foliage and elegant pyramidal shape. Monumental tree that grows slowly and adapts well to Mediterranean climate.

Growing tips

The Atlas Cedar needs a full sun location with at least 6-7 hours of direct light per day, in a spacious outdoor area as it can reach up to 12 metres tall and 8 metres wide. Water with moderate frequency, allowing the soil to partially dry out between waterings, as it tolerates some drought once established. Plant it in autumn or spring in well-drained soil, preferably slightly calcareous or loamy, avoiding waterlogging which can rot the roots. It is very hardy and withstands temperatures down to -15 °C, so it requires no winter protection in Mediterranean or temperate climates.
