Calicotome spinosa
Spiny Mediterranean shrub with bright yellow flowers. Highly drought-resistant.
Calicotome spinosa needs an outdoor location with full sun exposure, at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Watering should be sparse, as it is highly drought-resistant; occasional watering in summer is sufficient and virtually none is needed in winter. It prefers well-drained, poor or Mediterranean-type soil, and tolerates temperatures down to -5 °C without issues. Plant it in autumn or spring and handle it carefully due to its sharp spines.
