Calendula

Calendula officinalis

Description

Medicinal and ornamental plant with golden orange flowers. Antiseptic and healing properties.

Growing tips

Calendula needs between 5 and 10 hours of direct sunlight per day to bloom abundantly, so always plant it outdoors in a well-sunny spot. Water it with moderate frequency, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. It withstands frost down to -5 °C, making it ideal to plant in autumn or spring in Mediterranean climates. Keep in mind that it has mild toxicity, so avoid ingestion and handle it with care if you have sensitive skin.
