Bougainvillea glabra
Vigorous climbing plant with bracts of vivid colors. Iconic of the Mediterranean landscape.
Bougainvillea needs between 7 and 12 hours of direct sunlight per day to bloom abundantly in pink tones from spring through autumn; always place it outdoors on a wall or support where it can climb up to 6 metres. Water it sparingly and allow the substrate to dry out completely between waterings, as it tolerates drought very well and is sensitive to excess moisture. Do not expose it to temperatures below 5 °C or to frost, as it is not frost-hardy; if you live in a cold area, protect it during winter. Bear in mind that it has mild toxicity, so handle it with gloves to avoid skin irritation.
