Borage

Borago officinalis var. alba

Description

Herbaceous plant with white pentamerous flowers and hirsute hairy leaves. Popular in gastronomy for its edible leaves.

Growing tips

White borage needs an outdoor location with direct sun, at least 6 hours a day, and moderate watering: water when the top layer of the substrate is dry, avoiding waterlogging. It tolerates temperatures down to -10 °C, making it a very hardy plant well suited to Mediterranean climates. Plant it in spring or autumn in a well-drained, slightly fertile substrate, and keep in mind that it has mild toxicity, so handle it with care if used in cooking.
