Borage

Borago officinalis

Description

Annual plant with blue star-shaped flowers and hairy leaves. Its flowers and leaves are used for infusions that improve respiratory health.

Growing tips

Borage needs an outdoor location with direct sunlight for at least 6 hours a day and moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent waterlogging. Plant it in spring in well-drained, fertile soil, as it adapts very well to Mediterranean climates and tolerates light frosts down to -5 °C. It can grow between 40 and 80 cm tall, so make sure to give it enough space. Keep in mind that it has mild toxicity, so handle it with care if intended for consumption.
