Bauhinia blakeana
Evergreen tree with orchid-like flowers of dark purple color that bloom in autumn and winter. Characteristic heart-shaped bilobed leaves.
Bauhinia blakeana needs an outdoor location with direct sun for at least 6 hours a day to bloom abundantly in autumn and winter with its spectacular purple flowers. Water with moderate frequency, allowing the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings, and use well-draining soil to prevent root suffocation. It tolerates temperatures down to 0°C, making it suitable for Mediterranean climates, but protect young specimens from severe frost. Plant it in spring in a spacious area, as it can reach between 3 and 7 metres in height and up to 8 metres in width.
