Black Medick Shrub

Astragalus monspessulanus

Description

Mediterranean leguminous shrub with pink-purple flowers in spikes, grayish leaves and very drought tolerant.

Growing tips

Black clover (Astragalus monspessulanus) requires full sun exposure, with at least 6-7 hours of direct sunlight per day, and well-drained soil, preferably calcareous or stony, typical of Mediterranean gardens. Water very sparingly, as it is highly drought-tolerant and excess moisture can rot the roots; in summer, watering every two to three weeks is sufficient. It is a hardy shrub that withstands temperatures down to -10 °C, so no winter protection is needed in Mediterranean climates. Plant it outdoors in spring or autumn and avoid compact or waterlogged soils.
