Leek

Allium porrum

Description

Robust vegetable with edible white stem, perfect for soups and Mediterranean cuisine. Resists cold well and can be harvested for months.

Growing tips

Leek needs between 5 and 8 hours of direct sunlight per day and is planted outdoors in spring or autumn. Water moderately, keeping the soil slightly moist but never waterlogged, as it tolerates some water stress. Use a fertile, well-drained substrate and plant deeply to obtain long, white stems. It is very hardy and withstands frost down to -10 °C, so it can remain in the ground for months until harvest.
