Silk Tree

Albizia julibrissin

Description

Deciduous tree with fine filigree-like leaves and silky pink flowers. Elegant canopy and light shade perfect for Mediterranean gardens.

Growing tips

The Silk Tree needs a full sun location with at least 6 hours of direct light per day, in well-drained and preferably dry soil, as it tolerates drought very well and requires only sparse watering once established. It is frost-resistant down to -10 °C, so it can be planted without winter protection in Mediterranean and temperate climates. The best time to plant it is spring or autumn, in a spacious outdoor area that allows for its considerable height and spread. Bear in mind that it has mild toxicity, so it is advisable to prevent children or animals from chewing on it.
