Actinidia chinensis
Vigorous climbing plant that produces edible fruits with a bittersweet flavor. Requires structural support and cross-pollination for good fruit production.
Kiwi needs between 6 and 10 hours of direct sunlight daily and moderate watering, ensuring the substrate stays moist but well-drained, especially during growth and fruiting. Plant it in autumn or spring outdoors, providing a sturdy structure (pergola, trellis) to support its vigorous stems, as it can reach up to 8 metres in height. It is frost-hardy down to -10 °C, making it suitable for cold winters without special protection in Mediterranean climates. Keep in mind that at least one male and one female plant are needed nearby to ensure cross-pollination and fruit production.
