Black Wattle

Acacia melanoxylon

Description

Evergreen tree with rapid growth featuring yellow flowers in fragrant clusters. Hard and black wood highly valued.

Growing tips

Acacia melanoxylon needs an outdoor location with direct sun for at least 6 hours a day and is perfectly suited to Mediterranean climates. Watering should be infrequent, as it tolerates drought well once established; water only when the soil is completely dry. It withstands frost down to -8 °C, making it a hardy tree that requires no winter protection in most areas. Plant it in autumn or spring in well-drained soil with enough space, as it can reach up to 10 metres in height and 6 metres in width.
